. Apre siklòn Marilyn li te deplase nan Illinois ak matant li pou l kontinye 6th grade. Lè li te retounen St Thomas, li te ale nan Lekòl Antilles jiskaske li gradye. Se yo ke li rekonèt enpòtans sèvis kominotè. Li kwè ke nou tout gen yon responsablite pou youn ede lòt, sitou sou yon ti zile konsa.

Pearl Spenceley

Board Treasurer

I am from St. Thomas USVI and St. Barthelemy FWI. After completing a bachelor’s degree in accounting from

the University of the Virgin Islands and a master’s from Nova Southeastern University, Pearl spent her career seasoning her

skills in the consulting/financial services industry where she is currently focusing on business strategy development at

FirstBank.

Jointly with her husband and combining her background in business management with his background in operations management and engineering, they founded Caribbean Surface Solutions LLC in 2019. The company focuses on high-performance surface protection systems with a long-term goal to protect structures against the natural effects of corrosion, abrasion, and water damage in the territory.

Pearl enjoys making a positive impact on the community, helping others, and volunteering her time and skills to support

where there is a need. Although she loves being a driver for change, her favorite moments are when she is surrounded by

her family.

Barbara Pomerantz

Board Secretary

With regard to formal education, I have a B.A.  from the University of Pennsylvania in Applied Mathematics, and an MBA in Accounting from Temple University.  I worked in computer programming, systems analysis and tax preparation.

My husband, Arthur, and I and our 11-month-old daughter Lauren moved to St. Thomas at the end of 1977 as Arthur was on loan from the IRS as the tax attorney for the Government of the Virgin Islands.  This three-year temporary assignment turned into 45 years on the island with Arthur as a prominent attorney in private practice, concentrating in real estate and commercial transactions, and with Lauren and me splitting time between here and Philadelphia, while Lauren completed her schooling.

Since 1995 until Arthur’s untimely death in 2022, I assisted him in his legal practice in several capacities. As I had a somewhat flexible schedule, I could pursue other endeavors both here and in Philadelphia, mostly in a volunteer capacity.  In the states, I ran a local newspaper, and I wrote and photographed for publications both here and in Philadelphia.  I was also President of the Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities, an organization which raised funds for and showcased Philadelphia youth nonprofits.  I organized events for Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society as well as for the Flower Market.

Currently, I volunteer for Penn’s Village, an organization in Philadelphia which provides companionship and services to seniors who want to stay in their own homes.  Locally, I have been working on an oral history project in the Virgin Islands in conjunction with the Caribbean Genealogy Library, interviewing seniors following the Centennial, and I volunteer at the VI Children’s Museum.  I take Improvisational Theater and Staged Readings class as well as act in online plays, which help in working with young children (reading and reacting to them).

My plan is to spend winters and summers in St. Thomas, and maybe a little bit in the fall (after hurricane season).  My family and I own two condos at Sapphire Bay Condominiums West, and we are hoping to maintain a presence here with the next two generations.
