Our Story

The Center for Education about Risks both Coastal and Aquatic (CERCA) St. Thomas hosted its Grand Opening event at the Virgin Islands Children's Museum on December 13, 2025. CERCA aims to raise awareness about coastal hazards and promote resilience in the Virgin Islands community.

The event showcased interactive activities, guest lectures, and information sessions led by esteemed hazard experts. Dr. Patricia Chardón, Technical Director and Deputy Director at the Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System (CARICOOS), Regina Browne, Deputy Director of Planning and Preparedness at the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA), Roy Watlington and Dr. Lincoln Critchley from Ocean Coastal Observing - Virgin Islands (OCOVI), and Amber McCammon, Chief Executive Officer at the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum, shared their expertise. Representatives from the Caribbean Green Technology Center and GRROE USVI Mangroves Program also contributed their knowledge.
