Math Works
Where Numbers Come to Life and Learning Never Ends
Math Works is an interactive initiative at the museum where visitors of all ages can embark on a journey to explore the magic of mathematics. Dive into hands-on activities, engaging exhibits, and captivating puzzles that showcase the beauty of numbers, shapes, and patterns. Immerse yourself in the world of math, including the fascinating realm of infinite sums, in celebration of the National Year of Math - 2026. The Year of Math invites individuals of all backgrounds to explore the subject without fear of judgment or failure. Join us for fun and enlightening experiences that ignites curiosity and learning for all.
Join us for free admission education days to celebrate the wonders of math exploration and adolescents can participate in our Maps, Math & Myths table-top roleplaying game workshops.

PI DAY
3.14 - March 14, 2026
Perhaps the most famous digits in all of mathematics, Pi has long been an inspiration for artists, filmmakers, educators and more. And we’re leaning into it with events nationwide.
The 2026 theme for the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is "Mathematics and Hope," highlighting math as a universal language that nurtures optimism, comprehension, and innovative solutions to worldwide issues. Observed every year on March 14 (3/14), this campaign, spearheaded by UNESCO and the International Mathematical Union, underscores the power of mathematical reasoning in cultivating resilience and inspiration.
INFINITY DAY
8.8 - August 8, 2026
The concept of infinity can be overwhelming to consider.
Boundless opportunities. Endless possibilities. It’s also the
namesake of this initiative! We can’t wait to share more.
FIBONACCI DAY
11.23 - November 23, 2026 (Celebrated at the VICM on Saturday, November 21, 2026)
The Fibonacci spiral is ubiquitous in the world around us. It inspires feelings of unity and
interconnectedness. A perfect metaphor for this initiative.

The Virgin Islands Children’s Museum is a dedicated math ambassador museum in partnership with the National Year of Math and the Infinite Sums program sponsored by the Simons Foundation.

Introducing the Maps, Math & Myths Program!
Join us for an exciting tabletop role-playing game workshop series, M3 (M cubed), designed for youth aged 11 to 17. Presented in collaboration with the Virgin Islands Children's Museum and Island Harbor Games, this innovative initiative seamlessly integrates cartography, probability, math, creative writing, and art into an immersive adventure.
In the cartography component, participants will hone their spatial awareness and navigation skills while delving into map reading and making activities. Through hands-on map creation exercises, youth will develop a deeper understanding of geography and enhance their ability to interpret and create visual representations of landscapes using mathematical principles.
Challenge yourself to apply mathematical concepts in a practical and engaging manner within the role-playing gaming context. Strengthen your numeracy skills, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving techniques through activities such as calculating probabilities, making strategic decisions, and solving math-based puzzles.
Unleash your imagination and artistic talents in the creative writing and art aspects of the program. Craft intricate lands, myths, and characters through world-building exercises and character development workshops. Design and paint your game characters to bring your unique creations to life.

By participating in this multifaceted program, you will acquire essential skills in cartography, probability, math, creative writing, and art while developing critical thinking, teamwork, and communication abilities. Join us for the upcoming six-week session at the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum starting February 12th. Take advantage of the early bird special and scholarships available!
