King of the Wing 2022

After a two-year hiatus, the 11th annual King of the Wing (KOW) competition returned to Magens Bay with more participants and attendees than ever before! 8,000+ people descended on the chicken wing contest on Saturday, June 11th, 2022.

Forty-four teams consisting of the top local restaurants, businesses, organizations and chicken wing connoisseurs impressed the crowds with an exceptional variety of wing styles and flavors.

The event also hit a new fundraising record by raising $78,702.80 for the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum; almost 15% of the VICM annual operating budget!

Barefoot buddha

This year's winner, in the Restaurant Division, was Barefoot Buddha, a healthy, holistic eatery in Havensight, St. Thomas.

"Hard work prevails," said head chef, Cory Baker. "[We] had so much fun being a part of a great fundraiser for our kids in our community," she continued.

Barefoot Buddha represented the Havensight neighborhood that is home to The Virgin Islands Children's Museum as well as the broader VI community in a big way with two wing wins this year! Cory and her team represented the Virgin Islands in the National Buffalo Wing Festival during Labor Day Weekend (September 3-4, 2022) at Highland Park, NY and won 2nd place for "Media Best in Show."
